In less than a week, two new and five returning Pelican Bay Foundation Board Members will assume the huge responsibility of directing Pelican Bay affairs on our behalf. It is no small commitment. These volunteers spend countless hours trying to ‘get it right.’ Usually they do. One Board trait with which we have been blessed is the visionary component of Board decisions over the years. We exist today as a leader, maybe the leader, of desirable communities in Southwest Florida because of the vision of our Boards. We wish this Board continued success. With hurricane Ian’s visit added to the other challenges, there is much work, important and costly work, to do.
Let’s take a look at some Board decisions that can be revisited and improved, and some new opportunities.
Some Board, at some point in time, delegated their editing responsibilities to the Foundation President. This editing applies to ALL Pelican Bay media and forums: the Pelican Bay Post, Today in the Bay, all Board and committee meeting minutes, notes and videos. There is no Board oversight nor appellate process. The editor is it, the final say about what reaches our members through official Pelican Bay sources.
Please share your thoughts about the current editing policies with our Board.
The editor has implemented this responsibility denying you details about what is really going on in Pelican Bay. In the past 14 months, four of our submissions to the Pelican Bay Post have been rejected in their entirety. Board Meeting video content has been edited out, and vital expense information has been denied to the people who fund Pelican Bay and pay the bills, YOU!
Is this a policy that you want your Board to continue to embrace? Control the voice of dissent and you control the people.
Community Center parking is not a new issue, but there is now an urgency component to it as Pickleball becomes a
reality in some form and at some location, one possibility of which is the NE part of the Community Center parking lot.
Please become familiar with the Pickleball and parking options, and share your thoughts with our Board members.
Hurricane Ian was not kind to our beach and beach properties. As the restaurants are restored, we have a unique opportunity to do it better than it was done in the last renovation.
Make your voice heard on this issue, too. Minus another devastating hurricane, we will live with the result for a long time. Let’s get it right.
Enjoy those beautiful, new pathways. This undertaking is far more complex and tedious than most of us could ever imagine. But the result is a good one.
