Moving Forward….         Our collective efforts must make it very clear that opposition to the proposed One Naples development rezone and growth plan amendment,Is not about… “Not in my backyard.”Is not about… Opposition to development of the parcels on the corner of Vanderbilt Drive and Gulf Shore Drive and,Is not about… Opposition to Stock Development.

All must come to the realization that the County Commissioners, while they may be empathetic to expressed concerns about losing views, traffic and noise, etc…  WILL NOT VOTE ‘NO” based on traditions and opinions.
However, having said that, the County Commissioners CAN (AND SHOULD) vote ‘NO’ to Stock Development’s rezone and growth plan amendment for its non-conformance, deviations, short setbacks and for being asked to turn a blind eye to the current Land Development Code (LDC), to allow such an intense, increase in allowable density for mixed-use on this small parcel!

Bottomline… One Naples will come down a policy decision for the County Commissioners. If this is approved, it will set a dangerous precedent that will become the future ‘norm’ (as justified and supported, as being consistent). Sadly then, Collier County will be unable to contain urban sprawl.

Simply stated, opposition to the proposed One Naples development rezone and growth plan amendment MUST be about:

Preservation of the current Land Development Code!.Our plight between now and then, is to convince the Board of County Commissioners to stop their (big)” business as usual” and ‘anything goes’ recent policy of approving projects that do not ‘fully’ meet the intent of the Land Development Code, and come back to the standards set in the LDC:  to preserve and to protect the safety and general welfare of Collier County; to prevent the overcrowding of land, and avoid the undue concentration of population.

It’s time for the County Commissioners to get back to ‘Smart Growth’!

On lighter note…A Special Thank-You to all who have sent ‘sample’ letters to our elected officials. To date, you have collectively sent out over 660 letters (with each elected official receiving an average of 60 letters). For those who would still like to send letters but are in need of the links, please email the PBPOA here.
