NAPLES, Fla. – One Naples did not get through the planning commission after a meeting to vote on the project was held Thursday evening.

Developer Brian Stock said Vanderbilt Beach is the perfect place to build ‘One Naples,’ two 16 story condominium and three five story mid-rises.

However, many in the community like John Bamberger said their home is not the place for this high rise. “It’s not what we want, it’s not why we moved here,” Bamberger said. He said this condominium will cast a shadow on their slice of paradise. “We are going to feel like we are in Miami, downtown Miami not Naples Florida. This will change the face of Collier County, I don’t want it,” Bamberger said.

Hundreds standing with him, hiring Ralf Brookes, an attorney to represent the Save the Vanderbilt Beach Group. “We don’t want taller buildings 208 feet in height creeping in to the Vanderbilt Beach area, North of Vanderbilt Beach road,” Brookes said.

Another concern the community has is traffic and hurricane evacuation routes. “This is a category 1 evacuation zone and its going to take along time for people to evacuate from here,” Brookes said. The planning commission has shared their concerns over the height of the building and setbacks from the road.

Over 80 people were registered on the zoom meeting today to speak on their thoughts of the project, many opposing it.
